Glorious Sunny Day
While on the plane back to the US, I had a chance to catch up on all the news of the world and read with great sadness on what is happening to Turkey. What seems an "easy to solve issue" - preserving a park vs. development, has opened a can of worms. From what I can read, the people of Turkey want a more politically free Turkey where freedom of speech is respected. However, as mentioned in an earlier post, to do this, in my opinion, Turkey needs to acknowledge its past. I was very shocked to learn that the few people we talked to did not acknowledge that the Armenian massacre took place or eluded to it as the "alleged massacre". True, history is in the eye of the beholder but the data is overwhelming.
It is encouraging though, that the people are protesting. Hopefully, Erdogan, will listen and encourage peaceful dialogue instead of continuing to use brutal police force.
Turkey is a special place where the religions of Christianity, Judaism and Islam come together and played and currently plays an important role in civilization and history. I root for the people with the bottom of my heart.
What does the future of Turkey behold?
