Lunar New Year in Singapore
Sunny with occasional torrential rain
The idea today was to get up early and go the the Singapore Botanical Gardens. I didn't make it there by 7am which was my goal due to work related issues but did make it there at 830am just in time for the wonderful National Orchid Garden located inside the Botanical Gardens. I could have spent the entire day there enjoying the thousands of speices of orchids. Orchids are said to be healing as they aborb alot of carbon dioxide and emit alot of oxygen. I have to say I felt very calm and peaceful while walking through the gardens. I took tons of photos as every orchid was special. I would love to have an orchid garden back in California but not sure it will work due to the dryness. It was quite humid while walking through the gardens as it was lush and it rained the day before. But it definitely was one of the most beautiful gardens I've been to through my travels. I highly recommend it.
Here are the highlights:
Modern architecture blended with nature
Bugs fighting over the plumeria
Entrance is free (except for the orchid garden). Lots of expats with kids, dogs hanging around.
Interesting fig tree
Orchids!
VIP Orchid: Dedicated to Princess Masako
VIP Orchid: Dedicated to PM Chrestien of Canada
VIP Orchid: Dedicated to Princess Diana
Saw lots of ginger plants too
Bromeliad garden- apparently, some of the rarest are housed here. Most are from South America
The pathway to the Cool House
The Cool House is cool inside. The temperature is the same as high in the mountains in the tropics where its wet and cool. Ideal condition for orchids to grow on trees.
There is also a display of carnevorous plants (below). Got me thinking if plants eat meat, they really must have feelings.
Too bad they weren't real cuz that would have been spectacular!
