Manhattan, New York
Cold, Crisp and Clear Night
Writing this at 1153pm from hotel room in NYC because I CANNOT SLEEP! This jetlag is killing me. And I can't get the play War Horse out of my mind. Went to go see if with BFF Nicky tonite at Lincoln Center in NYC. It was an early birthday present from Nicky. I love Lincoln Center. It is so gorgeous and sophisticated.
Anyways, go see the play if you have the chance. It is a MUST. SEE. Forget the movie, it is one of the most magical and emotional plays I've ever seen. I'm tearing up just writing about it. It is a wonderful story about a boy and his horse and how their lives get disrupted through that horrible and ridiculous war - World War I. It is about love and a reminder that animals do have emotions.
Many people don't know but horses were used during WWI and were thought to be effective by the British because of the success of the Boer War (which was another ridiculous war). But what the British did not expect were machine guns and barbwire. A total of eight million horses died during WWI. One million English horses were taken to France to be used by the British Army. Only 62,000 of them were brought back to England.
The play uses "puppets" as horses. It is hard to describe but suffice it to say after about 5 minutes, you forget they are puppets. I loved, loved the play. And especially loved it as despite the horrors of War, unconditional love can still be had.
Please go see it if you can. Yes it will make you cry but will also fill your heart with love.
