LAX
Sunny and a Bit Humid
Writing this blog from the KLM lounge at LAX. I'm on my way to Amsterdam for another IBC - International Broadcast Conference. Brutal! And not a good start. Showed up at airport at 8am so I could check in and take conf calls until flight time which is 2pm. Well the "Delta" flight is actually a KLM flight located at a completely different terminal (so had to walk around the airport) and cannot check in until 930am. So was in line at 915am, 940am and still no gate agent. Finally, a gate agent showed up at 943am, played around with the computer and I was able to drop my bag off at 955am (it took about 2min to check me in). Fortunately, I got through security in a flash but when went to KLM lounge it was closed! The sign says it opens at 10am but NO! So annoying. It opened closer to 11am. And now I'm in this tiny lounge with cruise ship folks getting drunk on gin/tonics and bloody mary's.
Anyhow, I digress. Labor Day weekend was glorious in Malibu. But I stayed home most of the time fixing up my place. Beach traffic was surprisingly light because most of Malibu's beaches were closed to swimmers. Why? Well, the wave were huge and lots of riptides. The waves were created from a storm off New Zealand. It started on Thursday and continued until this Sunday. Some were as high as 10ft! So only expert boogie boarders and surfers were in the water. And there were surfers from all over the world! It was quite a scene. At night, I could hear the waves crashing onto shore. All from a storm in New Zealand. Amazing
And now, the ocean is like a lake. Hardly any waves.
Westward Beach on Friday around 6pm. 5-7 foot waves
And Ms. Yuki waiting for me while I take the photos.
