Gorgeous Beach Weather
Malibu, CA
Well, I survivied carmegeddon weekend and now am following the USA vs Japan women's soccer match. Lots of soccer parties going on in Malibu which is fantastic for women and sports. So this is going to be a quick post as I am going to my neighbors' to watch the second half of the game.
I've been going to NYC alot lately. Mostly for work but spent a long weekend last week with my sister to celebrate my 50th birthday! I'll write about the crazy weekend in the next few posts but suffice it to say I drank enough wine and ate enough food that will last me another 50 years!
Anyhow, its been over 10 years since I moved to California from NYC. And now I'm a tourist in a city that was my home for 18 years. It's amazing how things change in the city yet I still very comfortable in the "Big Apple". And that brings me to the topic of this post. How did NYC get the nickname "The Big Apple"? Funny, how I never questioned it when living there but now I'm curious. Well it turns out that it was coined by a journalist covering horse racing in the 1920s. NYC at that time hosted horse races that had the largest potential for earnings for both the spectators and jockeys. The journalist first used the term "The Big Apple" to refer to the $$$ one can make in horse racing in NY. But then the term caught on to describe NYC as the Big Apple. So there you go. And here are some pics of the "Big Apple".

Very bad photos of Sullivan Theater - David Letterman show. Had a meeting with CBS and they took me on a tour. Fabulous!
I learned that every theater in Broadway has a light that is always on for the resident ghost
