Malibu, CA
Cloudy, Cool
Last week, I had to go to NYC for business. Fortunately, as I had several biz meetings scheduled, I was able to stay for an entire week. Although, it was quite hectic, I managed to meet friends, family AND..... go see the Alexander McQueen exhibition at the MET.
I wouldn't have gone for it now my stylish BFF- Karyn, strongly recommending it. Unfortunately, Alexander McQueen had a tragic short life ( he committed suicide at the age of 40). His label lives on though with Sarah Burton as the head designer and it was she who designed Kate Middleton's wedding dress.
I went to the exhibition on my last day in NYC which was Friday afternoon. My BFF Susan came with me. My time was limited as I had to leave the city by 330pm to catch my flight. So when I heard there was a 45 min wait, I was not sure I could do it. But I came up with a brilliant idea. If I sign up for a year's membership (60$), I get to bypass the line. I thought it was totally worth doing as a) it will encourage me to go to the MET more often when visiting NYC and b)I get to dine at the member's only restaurant. So after signing up as a member, we immediately went to the special exhibit - Savage Beauty by Alexander McQueen.
Now, I've seen his elaborate and mouth dropping clothes on TV, but wow, in person, it is so beautiful and intricate. Both Susan and I got goosebumps. The clothes were displayed in a theatrical setting so befitting from Alexander McQueen. It was incredible. One could go up close and see the beading and unusual material he used including human hair, tahitian pearls, shells and bamboo. And the shoes! OMG! so wild and all were super high heels. Many of the hats were designed by Philip Treacy and were just gorgeous.
I was fortunately able to take a few photos until a security guard told me that photos are not allowed. I will be back in NYC the end of May and definitely will go again.
