New York, New York
Cloudy with Sprinkles
I was going to post this 2 weeks ago but got side tracked by a disease. A disease that only "old" people get supposedly. I got it. It's called Shingles. Basically, it's when the dormant chicken pox virus that is sound asleep in your nerves, notices that either your immune system is weak, or wakes up as it slept enough and attacks your nerves. You basically get chicken pox like rash on the skin along the affected nerve and let me tell you, it is PAINFUL. In my case, the nerve that was affected was from behind my neck, through the left scalp and to the left ear. Fortunately, I caught it early so got a bunch of drugs to help me heal faster. Unfortunately, one of the drugs is prednisone, a very strong steriod. Had to take it so not to scratch and infect the rash which could result in bald spots! I was going to take a photo and write a post on the experience but thought it would gross people out. Anyhow, I am fine now and on a biz trip to NYC so look for a post on the NYC trip.
So back to Vegas. Oh yes, spent a week there for NAB - National Association of Broadcasters Conference. Exhausting conference for me and my colleagues. I am not a gambler and don't like Vegas (although I do like the desert surrounding it) So am usually in a bad mood, streessed and just want to get out of there. And like every NAB, I end up gaining pounds, as I go out with clients and eat to counteract the stress.
Here's where I feasted in Vegas
The Mirage Hotel: Where I stayed this year.
Noodle Asia @ Venetian: I had hargow (steamed shrimp dumpling) and my favorite Singapore Noodles
My colleagues and I went to Spago's for yummy salads and pizzas for dinner before the show began
Went to Carnegie Deli @ Mirage for breakfast thinking they had bagels with smoked whitefish salad. No, so ordered corn beef hash - BIG Mistake. A plate of about 4 cups of corned beef hash with one egg on top. It was AWFUL
When in Vegas, I crave for Asian food, so went to Noodles in Bellagio where I had some dimsum(or yamcha) and wonton noodle soup - Delish!
One nite the "ladies" got together for Italian food at Onda, supposedly Vegas' best Italian Restaurant - NOT. I had truffle tagliolini and caesar salad. It was OK. Service was not good. But at least we had fun!
Then I had a client dinner I was hosting at BOA Steakhouse where we had seafood as an appetizer and steaks, creamed spinach, potatoes, asparagus for the main course. Delish but too much food!
And just when I thought I had my steak quota for the year, another steak dinner at Palm with the Japanese clients. It was fun but again lots of food.
Palm's signature wine
I could not eat another steak so had Veal Milanese instead.
For dessert, we shared a carrot cake because my Japanese friends never had it.
And now I'm in NYC, but must cut back on eating as gained over 7 kilos since Day One of NAB, thanks to the prednisone and the dinners/drinking in Vegas.
