Perfect SoCal Weather
I've been on the Metagenics 28 day Detox diet for the past 2 weeks. During the second week of the detox, only rice, veggies (except corn), fruits (except oranges and strawberries) olive oil, avocado, vinegar and spices are allowed. It is actually a pretty easy detox to do as you eat a lot. But you are only allowed to eat non-allergenic foods and have to take a nutritional shake from Metagenics 1-3 times a day. I am not following it to a T but have eliminated all allergenic foods except for Soy and caffeinated tea. I am finishing the second week of the detox this week and feel pretty good. Actually very good. So am really beginning to think I have some food allergies, especially to corn and dairy. Anyhow, after the detox, I'll gradually add allergenic foods and see what happens.
Since the second week is all about vegetables, I went to the Malibu Farmer's Market on Sunday and loaded up on fresh veggies. I'll do a post on the market tomorrow. It's a small market but lots of fun. One of the dishes I made with the veggies I bought from the market is "Broccoli with Roasted Peppers, Capers and Olives" from my favorite vegetarian cookbook "The Greens Cookbook" by Deborah Madison. I love this book. I've tried several recipes from this cookbook and all turn out great. The Cookbook has the recipes from the Green's Restaurant in San Francisco when it opened at the San Francisco Zen Center in 1979. I've never been to the restaurant but have been wanting to go for over 10 years.
One of my favorite is the broccoli dish. It is SO easy to make yet very very good. Basically, you roast yellow and red peppers, peel the skins, slice and mix them with crushed garlic, olive oil, capers, olives, scallions, fresh parsley, fresh marjoram, red pepper flakes and balsamic vinegar to tasted. Steam broccoli and stems to just soft, mix everything together, season with more olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper to taste. Very healthy, tasty and non-allergenic!
